Little relief from Coronavirus

Blog

To cheer me up during these difficult times, I’ve taken some photos of plants in my garden coming back to life after the winter.

It is also good to see the wildlife going about their business as nothing has changed for them. The wildlife doesn’t understand about the virus and they are busy preparing themselves for the spring and summer ahead. The frogs are very active and noisy at the moment and I already have a lot of frogspawn, with a lot more to follow given the activity I’ve been witnessing. The fish are starting to be active on the warmer sunnier days. I have noticed a number of bumblebees around the garden in the past few days. Pheasants have started to come back into the garden and there is a lot of fighting amongst the males. I’ve even had a couple of red-legged partridges in the garden. Blackbirds are busy collecting nesting material from the garden.

I’ve put up some nest boxes for the first time this year. I haven’t in the past as I’ve been concerned about woodpeckers and squirrels getting in to the young, but I purchased some boxes with a metal surround to the hole which should help to protect the young chicks. I’ve probably put them up too late for this year, but hopefully the birds will get used to them and start using them next year.
